Living in Scotland, I never underestimate how lucky I am to live in the heart of some of the world’s most dramatic scenery. However, living in such a beautiful place doesn’t constrain me from exploring other countries, and I have a great passion for travel. I love walking and exploring the incredible landscapes in the UK and mainland Europe, and my first venture into photography was to simply try and capture ‘that moment’ when you stumble upon a stunning vista, just for prosperity’s sake. I quickly progressed from simply capturing the moment, to capturing the light, beauty and feel for a specific place in time, with the aspiration of making the viewer feel engaged with me, the photographer.
I am enthusiastic about the light at the start and end of the day and aim to capture the illumination of the landscape giving a different perspective on a well-known ‘view’. Of course, capturing that light means hiking for hours in the dead of night; but, the spectacle of sunrise and sunset, along with the sights and sounds of the nocturnal wildlife make it all worthwhile. Curious of the animals and birds making the sounds on my late night and early morning walks ignited a desire to photograph them in their natural habitat, and very soon, my repertoire expanded to cover wildlife as well as landscape. Of course, it’s not just in the Lochs and Mountains, forests and rivers where beauty can be found. I’ve learned that stunning images can be captured in our cities and towns too. I still believe that light is the key element in photography no matter the surroundings, and I’ve learned that street lighting, even the light of a passing cyclist, can add interest and intrigue to create an atmospheric and captivating image. And of course, living in the UK surrounded by water, who could forget how beautiful our seascapes are! Whether it is capturing the serenity of the white sandy beaches and turquoise waters of the Scottish Isles, or the drama of Cornwall’s rugged coastline and crashing waves, the UK’s coastline with its ever changing and often unpredictable weather, offers a varied palette for a photographer.
I am truly passionate about my photography and am a very proud member of the Society of Scottish Landscape Photographers which represents some of the best photographers of the Scottish landscape currently active. My photography is ever evolving, and I love to learn new skills and techniques with my fellow photography enthusiasts. I could never have imagined the joy and satisfaction that commercial work would bring. To be able to create a portfolio of quality images that represents someone’s business/product and all their hard work and dreams, is an absolute privilege.
So, whether you want to purchase one of my images to display in your home, or create a visual showcase for your business, please know that I am extremely grateful for your support and happy to answer any questions that you have. Whatever I can create for you, will be done with lots of passion and with the very highest regard to quality.
